Thistle East Midlands Airport
Thistle hotels, part of Guoman Hotel Management, is a mid-market hotel chain which owns and operates 33 hotels across the UK. Many of these are city centre locations, including 11 in central London. The company also has two hotels in Malaysia. Thistle is the sixth largest hotel chain in Britain, headquartered in London. This pleasant red brick hotel has 164 rooms.
The hotel is located right at the entrance to the airport, just a few minutes away.
On-site parking for 350 cars is available, and cheaper than the airport. Guests pay £5 for one day, £15 for up to eight days or £25 for up to 15 days. Until 13 October, 2012, guests can take advantage of a Park and Fly offer: prices start from £70 a night including parking for up to 8 days.
There are three types of room, standard, executive or deluxe. All are en-suite, air-conditioned and wifi connected (though it is BT Openzone, which you have to pay for – vouchers can be purchased at reception). Accesible doubles, large enough for wheelchair users, are available. Check-in is from 2pm, check-out is noon.
While the Lord Byron Bar & Lounge serves a wide range of drinks, snacks and light meals, the Sherwood Restaurant offers more substantial British and Continental cuisine and an extensive wine list. Breakfast is served from 7 to 10am (10.30am at the weekend), lunch from noon until 2pm (closed at the weekend) and dinner from 6 until 10pm (9pm at the weekend). Room service is available 24 hours a day.
There are 20 light, air-conditioned meeting rooms, the largest of which holds up to 250 people. Food and drink packages are available. The hotel is also a popular wedding venue.
There is a Health & Leisure Club, Otium, with a gym, sauna and spa. Guests can use most facilities for free.
